‘What film-making techniques are used to make the trailer effective’
There is use of over the shoulder shots which creates a sense of intimacy as it makes the audience feel as though they are there and experiencing it with the characters. This is shown in the first scene when the woman is turning the lights out and she sees the figure in the darkness and this makes the trailer effective as with horror films its purpose is to frighten the viewers and to start with this shot makes them scared straight away. Also during the conversation with the siblings as this makes then feel closer to the characters and fear the figure with them. There is also use of point of view shots which creates the similar effects which i believe are essential in horror films. The trailer has many jump cuts and points of darkness to go between shots which create suspense as the viewer doesn't know whats coming next but as it happens so fast makes them feel scared to watch. Towards the end there is also use of text which says 'You were right'... 'To be afraid of the dark.' this makes the trailer effective as the main theme of the film is the fear of the dark as this figure appears and is dangerous to be around. Also the use of 'you' makes it direct at the audience, once again making it more personal.
